Coalition Members Meet with Residents at Sunnyhills United Methodist Church

The Milpitas Coalition for a Better Community met with around 50 community members to discuss the proposed Wal-Mart expansion on Ranch Drive on Saturday at the Sunnyhills United Methodist Church. Speakers included:

Cathy Deppe, 9 to 5
Bill Ferguson, Sunnyhills Neighborhood Association
Chonsoo Lee, Sunnyhills United Methodist Church
Ron Lind, UFCW Local 5 and long-time Milpitas resident
Jerry Lee Ruggiero, Milpitas Nob Hill Food worker
Sahuhi Saddique, Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque

Discussion centered on the reasons we’re against the expansion including: worries about job loss, neighborhood blight, and the proposed sale of alcohol at the site.

  1. Walmart made over 19 billion in profits
    I have some questions
What do they pay in propert tax compared to other Milpitas retail stores?
Did Milpitas help pay their way into Milpitas ie road, pg&e bills, water, maintance?.
Just what we need more people who will need food stamps, section 8 housing and medicare/cal I am referring to the “new” employees that will work there and pay no real taxes.
